Victorian architecture refers to styles that emerged from Great Britian in the period between 1830 and 1910, during the reign of Queen Victoria. The Victorian era spawned several well-known styles, including one in particular: Gothic Revival.

While the Victorian shape evolved largely from the imposing, elaborate Gothic idea, the style appealed to the romantic Victorian belief that fashion, architecture and furnishings should be tall, imposing and beautiful rather than practical. This style has influenced the craft of constructing birdhouses and dollhouses. It has also influenced the first impression we get when hearing the term "haunted house," as houses that are said to be visited by spirits from another world are often dipicted with this dark medieval style architecture.

Construction

Victorian birdhouses are built from 5/8" solid wood and sealed with MINWAX oil based stain & sealer. They are a little top heavy, however, they are built very strong. They are held together with Titebond II (weather proof) wood glue and reinforced with long fastener wood screws.
